What is the Kia Academy?

The Kia Apprenticeship Programme has been designed specifically to develop Kia Apprentices in order to equip them with the highest level of skills and practical ability within the automotive industry. Training is delivered via a block release programme, at the state of the art Kia Academy Training Centre in Nottingham. This provides Kia Apprentices with the most up to date manufacturer specific knowledge and competencies that participants can put into direct action in the dealership when returning from the Training Centre. This ensures that Kia’s dealer network is supplied with the next generation of highly skilled employees and potential managers of the future.

What roles are available?

Kia Light Vehicle Technician

Over a three year period you will gain a national recognised qualification – (IMI Level 2 and 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Competence, level 2 and 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles) gain a VRQ level 3 award in refrigerant handling (F-Gas) and become IMI accredited in Light Vehicle (service). As a Kia Light Vehicle Technician, will be responsible for carrying out service and repair on light vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes. The job role will include:

  • Servicing vehicles – following guidance set by Kia
  • Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components
  • Advising the Service Advisor about faults and required repairs
  • Contact with customers about work required
  • Diagnosing complex vehicle faults

Kia Parts Advisor

Over a 2 year period you will gain a nationally recognised qualification (IMI level 2 and 3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Competence, Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Principles) and become IMI accredited as a Parts Advisor. As a Kia Parts Advisor you are responsible for ordering, selling and managing stock control on vehicle parts. The job role will include:

  • Taking orders from customers both face to face and over the phone
  • Maintaining an ordered stock room and finding parts from stock
  • Raising invoices
  • Liaison with other members of staff
  • Customers may include members of the public, service departments of dealerships, and garages
  • Advise on accessories and modifications
  • Warranty claims and returns

Combined Service and Parts Advisor

Over a three year period you will gain a nationally recognised qualification (IMI level 2 and 3 Certificate in Vehicle Part Competence, level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Parts Principles and IMI Level 3 Certificate in Customer Service for the Automotive Industry) and become IMI accredited as a Customer Service and Parts Advisor. As a Kia Service and Parts Advisor you will have direct contact with customers, initially booking them in for work to their vehicles and then informing them of any additional repairs required.

Entry Requirements

  • Completed year 11 at the end of the academic year (school leavers only)
  • Resident of the UK and have been for the last 3 years
  • Aged 16 or over and you are not taking part in any other employment, training, enterprise programme or scheme funded by the government
  • Have a passion for the automotive industry
  • Willing to complete a Dependability, Safety, Maths, English and Mechanical comprehension Assessments or Customer Service Assessments as required
  • A desirable GCSE grade C or equivalent in Maths, English & ICT

After completing your apprenticeship

Graduates from the Kia Advanced Apprenticeship shall be eligible to continue their career progression with a Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4 / 5), either part time or full time.

Importantly you will have gained the Kia ethos and key values to succeed and have achieved the knowledge and competence to achieve your qualification. All of which will show your employer that you have the highest level of skills and practical ability within the automotive industry and a commitment to be successful.

Graduates will also be able to join professional bodies such as the IMI (Institute Motor Industry)
